A VAN driver who caused a fatal head on crash when he cut a blind corner has been jailed for 18 months and banned from driving for three years.
Ross Murrell, 22, was on the wrong side of the road when his vehicle collided with a car driven by John Hextall on the B1190 at Thimbleby near Horncastle.
Robert Underwood, prosecuting, told Lincoln Crown Court that Mr Hextall , who was driving from his home in Bucknall to Horncastle, was unable to get out of the way of the oncoming van and suffered fatal injuries.
Murrell told police that he simply did not see the other vehicle as he entered the corner.
Murrell, of Chestnut Drive, Hassocks, Brighton, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving on August 3, 2011.
The court heard Mr Hextall's death had casued a "devastating effect" on his family and his widow Josephine who had relied on her husband because of her own poor health.
