VISITORS to Skegness on Monday will come across a life-sized inflatable replica of Stonehenge in Tower Gardens.

Sacrilege has been co-commissioned by Mayor of London Boris Johnson and the Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art and is currently travelling the country as part of the London 2012 Festival.

The creation is the work of Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller and visitors to Tower Gardens will be able to bounce their way around one of the UK's most iconic monuments.

Mr Deller said: "A lot of my work deals with history, and Sacrilege is no exception, this is a way to get reacquainted with ancient Britain with your shoes off."

Leader of East Lindsey District Council and London 2012 Champion for Lincolnshire, Councillor Doreen Stephenson, said: "We're delighted to have been able to discuss this exciting opportunity with London 2012 Festival and secure a visit to Skegness, which we hope will help attract visitors to the area and give local people something exciting and different to do just prior to the school summer holidays ending."
