COLLEAGUES and friends of a family devastated by a car crash near Alford last week, have rallied together to help show their support.
Butlins' worker Yanusz Olewicz from Prince Alfred Avenue in Skegness, remains in a critical condition in hospital following a collision on the A16 at Driby Top on August 23.
Yanusz was the driver of one of two vehicles involved in the crash.
His wife, Katarzyna, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene and the couple's three-year-old son Aran received treatment for minor injuries at Grimsby Hospital.
After hearing the tragic news, colleagues from the catering department at Butlins, where Yanusz has worked for the last two-and-a-half years, started a fundraising effort to help support him and his family.
Zoe Davies from the department said: "We are all still in shock about what's happened to be honest but Yanusz has opened his eyes now and things are looking up.
"We need to make sure we look after his family. They have been commuting to hospital in Hull. We need to make sure they are comfortable while they are here. We sent e-mails to every department and have had a great response. There's a raffle going on around the resort and we are selling raffle tickets to hopefully raise a bit more. We also want to make sure Katarzyna's side of the family is OK.
"Yanusz is a valued member of the team and we want to support him and his family. Two team members that work for the catering department who are Polish, and can communicate with Yanusz's mother, have been running her to and from hospital. She doesn't speak any English and is very grateful for how she is being looked after."
Fundraising has so far reached around £2,000 and money is still coming in. Any further money raised now will be concentrated on providing items for Aran.
Members of the Skegness Group of Churches have also been donating money to help the family as Katarzyna and Aran had been worshipping at St Matthew's over the summer months and also attended some of the Messy Church sessions for families.
